The Illinois Farm Bureau wants the dates of the state fair to be pushed up, due in part to conflicts with the start of school. But State Fair Manager Amy Bliefnick says that's not likely.
It's now impossible to change the dates for 2013 as the fair has booked Toby Keith as its headlining Grandstand Act. The resolution asked for a potential change five years in the future. Even that, fair organizers say, is unlikely. Two staples of the state fair - horse racing and auto racing - follow a strict schedule that is seldom changed. The competitors, for the most part, follow a circuit in pursuit of regional or national championships.
