Students at Marquette Catholic High School in Alton will get to enjoy two more weeks of summer vacation, as a massive remodeling project has just expanded. The project encompasses the gymnasium and some surrounding areas, so school administrators felt it would be best to keep foot traffic to a minimum through the month of August.
School Principal Mike Slaughter describes the newly-approved work.
As a result of the expanded scope, more asbestos was discovered, and will have to be abated. He says the timeline is to have all of the work done late this year or early next year. Once school begins September 4, students will be rerouted around the construction zone.
