The Stamp Out Hunger campaign is this Saturday. It's the largest food drive in the nation, where people come together and leave non-perishable food items in a bag by their mailbox. Food banks traditionally do not receive as many donations during the summer months as they do near the holidays, so you can help those in need with your donation tomorrow.
Joe Mercurio is president of the local letter carriers union in Alton, and says anyone who receives mail can take part:
Mail carriers will pick the bag up and it will be delivered to a local food pantry or food bank. Acceptable foods include any type of canned good or boxed food. No glass containers will be accepted. Bags should be at your mailbox by 8am Saturday.
