The only movie theater in Jersey County will reopen tonight. The Stadium Theater in Jerseyville was closed in November by AMC, but local ownership has revived the two-screen cinema. The Stadium has been an affordable place to see a show for years, and the new owner hopes to continue that trend.
Steve Dougherty recently purchased the theater, and immediately upgraded to digital technology, and is also bringing in 3D viewing. He says he has few worries as show time approaches.
On the two screens this weekend will be "The Hunger Games," and "Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax." Movie prices will be $6 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under, and matinee shows will be $5 per person. Dougherty is no stranger to the business of making a small theater work. He also owns a theater in Litchfield and operates another in Carlinville.
