The fiscal cliff measure designed to prevent automatic tax hikes and deep government spending cuts will also be of benefit to social service agencies like Senior Services Plus in Alton.  The measure was passed this week in the House by a vote of 257-167.  It sailed through the Senate on an 89 to 8 vote.

Senior Services Plus Executive Director Johnathan Becker says had the bill not passed, clients in 22 communities and 2 counties would have been negatively affected.

Becker comments

The deal extends Bush-era tax cuts for households making less than 450-thousand annually, while taxes will go up on those making more than 450-thousand.
