Wireless internet could soon be found anywhere you go in downtown Springfield.
Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder says once installed, it would eventually be accessible within a 35 block radius of downtown, and would be in place for one simple reason.
"I think it's important for not only tourism -- as you're walking along you can plot things on your phone -- a lot of people use it on their phone to locate restaurants, businesses, tourist sites, this makes it easier for them," says Langfelder, "It's also for business attraction."

Bids for the work to be done next year are due by the end of the month. Urbana, Naperville, Skokie, and Galesburg are among the other cities in Illinois already offering free downtown wifi.
