The new South Harbor at America’s Central Port in Madison is open for business. The dedication ceremony Monday morning marked the completion of the project that began in late 2012 that leaders hope will continue to put the focus on the region as a growing transportation hub.
America’s Central Port Executive Director Dennis Wilmsmeyer tells The Big Z this is another step in creating a multi modal facility that should prove attractive to business interests.

The South Harbor is located south of Lock & Dam 27, allowing for free-flowing water between St. Louis and the Port of New Orleans. America’s Central Port has a $282-million impact per year on Madison County and is responsible for more than 1,400 local jobs.
