The organizers of the Kick It 3v3 Midwest Regional Championships Soccer Tournament this weekend at Gordon Moore Park in Alton are expecting big things from the region. More than 2,000 people are expected to be in town as the event returns for a second year. Last year, hotels and merchants reaped the benefits of the financial boon.
Kick It 3v3 soccer uses a small field with six players on the field at a time, and teams will include boys and girls, ages 6 to 19+. Alton Regional Convention and Visitor's Bureau President Brett Stawar says they are excited about going into year two of the event.
By soliciting this and other sporting events, the Alton Regional Convention and Visitor's Bureau Sports Committee is hoping to grow the impact sports can have on the tourism partners throughout the region. Last summer's Kick It 3v3 Tournament saw 100 teams compete, with a large number of them from out of town, adding up to an economic impcat of over $340,000.
