The organizers of the Kick It 3v3 Midwest Regional Championships Soccer Tournament this weekend at Gordon Moore Park in Alton are expecting big things from the region. More than 2,000 people are expected to be in town for the event, which is expected to be a financial boon to area hotels and merchants.
Kick It 3v3 soccer uses a small field with six players on the field at a time, and teams will include boys and girls, ages 6 to 19+. Regional Event Director Laura Leber says that leads to a more fast-paced game than full-field soccer. She also says based on what she has seen so far, Alton has a good shot at seeing this tournament return in future years.
By soliciting this and other sporting events, the Alton Regional Convention and Visitor's Bureau Sports Committee is hoping to grow the impact sports can have on the tourism partners throughout the region.
