Twenty anti-smoking advocacy groups are coming together this week in an effort to encourage smokers to kick the habit. April 13-17 is national Smoking Cessation Awareness Week. The local theme for the event is “Show Me You Can Quit” according to Alton Memorial Hospital Senior Director of Public Relations Dave Whaley.
He tells the Big Z that your doctor can help you kick the habit.

Whaley says that the decision to stop smoking can cut the risk of developing coronary heart disease in half and also greatly reduces your risk of developing lung cancer. He also adds that the Illinois Tobacco Quitline is a great resource to use if you’re trying to quit. You can reach the Illinois Tobacco Quitline by calling 866-QUIT-YES.
