The Illinois Sheriffs' Association will be awarding over $53,000 in college scholarships throughout the state to students this year. The scholarship program has been offered for a number of years, and is for students enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the state.
Each county sheriff in Illinois will offer the $500 scholarship, which is to be applied to tuition, books and fees only. Madison County Sheriff Bob Hertz says several factors will go into picking a winner, but not necessarily whether or not the student is pursuing a career in law enforcement.
