Madison County Sheriff Robert Hertz is facing a federal lawsuit from a former secretary. An attorney for Jaimie Linton filed the suit in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis on Tuesday alleging the sheriff sexually harassed her and created a hostile work environment. In addition to Hertz, the suit also names Madison County as a defendant in the case.
According to a report in the Belleville News Democrat, the lawsuit alleges Hertz not only created a hostile work environment but also inflicted emotional distress upon Linton, abused his position of power and engaged in outrageous conduct. Linton filed a complaint earlier this year with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging she was harassed while she worked as a secretary for Hertz. The lawsuit seeks several million dollars in damages from the defendants in the case. Hertz said he was not surprised by the suit and said the claims will now be vetted in court. Linton's attorney did not comment on the suit.
