A St. Louis man with an Alton connection has been sentenced following a manhunt last year. 42-year-old Frederick L. Buettner pled guilty to charges in 2004 to raping his young daughter, and was sentenced to ten years in prison. In May 2013, he was released to a halfway house in East St. Louis, but vanished a couple of months later.
He was eventually captured in late June last year at a South St. Louis gas station where he had been working. He had apparently cut and colored his hair and had gone unnoticed for an unknown period of time until a customer recognized him from a picture on social media and alerted a police officer who was standing outside of the store. Buettner’s former wife and daughter live in Alton. He must serve out the remainder of his original sentence, plus an additional two years for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
