An East Alton man accused of exposing himself outside a local nursing home and peering into windows of the facility has been sentenced to probation. 45-year-old Michael E. Cox, of the 200 block of Cooper Street pleaded guilty to public indecency and could have received up to a year in jail. Instead, Cox got probation and a $1,000 fine. The sentenced was issued by Judge Don Flack.
Cox was arrested in late June after the incident outside VIP Nursing Home on East Edwardsville Road in Wood River after an employee witnessed him pulling his pants down and looking in windows. Cox has previous convictions of sexual exploitation of a child in 2006 and of being a child sex offender present in a school zone two years later. In 2005, he was charged with public indecency after an incident at the former Budget Inn in Alton. His criminal history dates back over 25 years, with charges in the late 1980's for aggravated battery and public indecency.
