Severe weather preparedness week in Illinois and across the country wraps up today. State Emergency Management Agency spokesperson Patti Thompson says the goal of the campaign this year is to encourage everyone to take an active role in making sure they are ready for any severe weather. Illinois has already experienced devastating tornadoes earlier this year. Thompson says the twisters that hit Harrisburg underscored the importance of having a weather radio to alert you to approaching severe weather. Residents of Godfrey also have another tool at their disposal: the Code Red warning system, which notifies subscribers of impending dangerous weather over their telephone.
