Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan joined some of her colleagues and members of Congress to announce a 2.5 million-dollar settlement against a web-site paid to represent for-profit colleges to lure GI’s and their benefits to their schools. The web site “Quinn Street” pretended to be a government sponsored, unbiased site while it was really a marketing arm for for-profit schools.

Madigan says it engaged in fraudulent and deceptive practices abusing veterans by using their GI Bill benefits and putting them in debt. “Quinn Street’s GI Bill website turned out to be nothing more than a slick advertisement for proprietary schools that paid Quinn Street to be featured on its site,” Madigan said. Madigan hopes this will be the first in a number of settlements or judgments against deceptive practices by for-profit schools.
