An Alton man is heading to prison for the next 27 years, following his guilty plea to murdering another man in Alton.  21-year-old Christopher Stewart (pictured) of Alton shot 24-year-old Carlos Reeves, of East St. Louis at a party in the early morning hours of May 16, 2012 in the 800 block of Brown Street.  Alton homicide detectives say the two had an ongoing dispute that came to a head in the garage that night.

State's Attorney Tom Gibbons says his office had asked for 40 years, but respects the judge's decision.

Golike comments

A report says both men were present at a small party at the home at 824 Brown Street - between Pearl and Union Streets - when the shooting took place.  Following the incident, Lieutenant Scott Golike of the Alton Police Department said a substantial amount of witness cooperation helped bring charges quickly after the shooting.
