Following the massacre at a Connecticut elementary school last year, Illinois State Sen. Jacqueline Collins (D-Chicago) is sponsoring a bill that would call for preparation of students and staff in case of a school shooting here. “We wanted to ensure that the law enforcement agencies were brought into the picture of the drills, in reference to being alert to any suspicious persons or incidents that might endanger the children,” Collins said.

Collins says the drill would be an addition to the drills schools already perform, such as fire drills. S.B. 1625 passed the Senate unanimously, sending it to the House.
