The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate isn’t convinced climate change is caused by humans. Touching on environmental issues that haven’t been widely discussed in this election, State Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) would only say there’s “some” evidence of man-made climate change. He and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) strongly disagreed about the previous winter in Illinois supposedly discrediting the science supporting climate change.

“Man, the senator’s been spending too much time in Washington, D.C., if he thinks we have, in Chicago, global warming. Last winter was one of the coldest winters on record,” Oberweis said. Durbin says that opinion ignores proven facts. “He doesn’t understand the impact of climate change, because it leads to extreme weather,” Durbin said, “and if you don’t see extreme weather in the tornadoes that have come our way and the weather patterns that have come our way, then you’re missing the boat.”
Oberweis responded by claiming the fact Durbin and others are now calling the problem climate change instead of global warming as evidence that its existence hasn’t been proven.
