Ninety workers in the Secretary of State's office are getting pink slips. The action comes after the Secretary of State's budget was cut 3 percent or almost $8 million.
"Something had to be done to balance that budget when you're working with limited means," spokesman Dave Drucker said. The lay-offs will be effective July first.
The cuts are coming from offices statewide and will impact all levels - union workers, exempt and merit-comp employees. There will also be 160 positions that will remain unfilled.
There are a total of 3,700 employees in the Secretary of State's office.
