With word that Sears was closing its Alton Square location, local leaders reacted with disappointment in February. Fast forward six months, and the news that Sears wants to re-establish itself in Alton has the head of a local business association mildly optimistic.

In mid-February, Sears Holdings announced that its store at the mall would be among six of its stores to close in Illinois as part of a massive restructuring of the company. With this new strategy, a company spokesman says they hope to be ready for the Christmas shopping season.
