Residents in the Alton School District could see their taxes stay nearly the same, or maybe even go down in the coming fiscal year. The newly established levy could be just under 7.5-percent higher than last year’s, but that is a number that could change depending upon the Equalized Assessed Value number that is established in the spring.

Norman also says that the district estimates high as a way to insure they do not lose money if the EAV rises by more than 5-percent. The total amount levied for 2016 is $34,603,000.  He says the board also gave the district to refinance a series of bonds from 2002, 2005, and 2007 in order to take advantage of some lower rates.
