U. S. Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Peoria) is preparing to show off what he has in his district. “I’m going to be hosting (U. S. Rep.) Frank Lucas (R-Okla.), the chairman of the (House) Agriculture Committee, in Lincoln, Ill., in early August for a town hall discussion with the farmers in my district,” Schock says. He adds the farm bill which has survived Lucas’ committee is “a marked improvement over what we have.”

As for the ongoing story of the absence of U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Chicago), Schock is careful about criticizing him. “Within the 435 members of (the U. S. House), there have been many who have been treated for different ailments who have come back and continue to serve their constituents well,” Schock says. “What’s bothering many people is just not knowing, and not knowing for so long.”Jackson’s staff has only gone so far as to say he is suffering from a “mood disorder” but won’t elaborate on what it is or where he is being treated. The absence was first reported two weeks ago – two weeks after it began. Schock says Jackson is a friend.
