The Salvation Army tends to many social issues, including homelessness, emergency response, and addiction treatment. Locally, the Alton Salvation Army is also tackling poverty and how it affects families with a program called Pathway of Hope.
Lieutenant Teri Ellison says oftentimes poverty is something that is passed from one generation to the next.

Pathway of Hope is a step from just helping with rent or utilities, according to Ellison. She says over a number of months they work with families to set goals and break the cycle of poverty. For more information, call 465-7764.
