The Riverbend has not been hit with a significant winter storm yet this season, but Alton’s Public Works Department expects to be ready if that changes. Last year was especially brutal on many area road crews, but with a fleet that has been upgraded over the past year or so, the thought is the city will be ready for almost anything Mother Nature sends our way.
Public Works Director Bob Barnhart tells The Big Z it has been a rough couple of years, so this winter’s weather has been a welcome change.

Barnhart says they have plenty of salt on hand, so between that and the ice-melting agent left over from last year, he thinks the city will be in good shape through the end of the season.
