The winter driving over the past few years have given drivers plenty of challenges, and a spokesman for the Illinois State Police has some reminders of what to do, and not to do, on the roads during the winter. The tips may seem like common sense, but for whatever reason many motorists continue to be caught off guard as the winter driving season arrives.
Trooper Heath Bryan of ISP District 18 in Litchfield tells The Big Z even though the forecast does not contain much of a chance for precipitation, you should always be ready for the possibility of black ice.

Trooper Bryan says to put together an emergency kit that includes a blanket, bottled water and snacks. Keep your gas tank at least half full, and keep your cell phone charged.
