Getting from one side of the tracks to the other in the village of Hartford is a bit easier now than it was last week. What could have been a closure through the end of the month for all railroad crossings in the village is wrapping up, and the crossing at Rand Avenue is supposed to open today.
The one at Hawthorne Avenue reopened over the weekend. Hartford Mayor Jim Spann says there were concerns that response time for first responders might be impacted if there were an emergency, but that was a situation that never came up.

The closure was to work on the future higher speed rail line through the area. Spann expects crews to be back at some point to install fencing along the tracks, but does not know when that will be.
