Motorists who use Broadway to get from East Alton to Alton will be breathing a sigh of relief. The Westbound lanes have been closed for much of the past week while crews work on the bridge across Wood River Creek. The project was called for by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers this spring as they had the flood gates removed for rehab.
Dan Miller is project manager for BCI Constrction, which is doing the work on the gates. He says at some point, new gates for the eastbound lanes will be installed.
The initial plan to close the eastbound lanes through next Monday has been shelved.
