The Illinois Department of Transportation continues work on the $5.4 million project to repair the pavement and resurface Illinois Route 140 from Annex Street near the Wadlow Statue in Upper Alton all the way to Williams Street in Bethalto, near the Illinois 255 interchange. The 4.2 mile stretch of highly-traveled road has been patched numerous times over the years, but the time came this spring to embark on a complete repave.
Work is currently underway in the Cottage Hills area, modifying the islands, according to IDOT Field Engineer Joe Gasaway.
There continues to be be periodic lane closures throughout the project, according to Gasaway. Work is expected to wrap up around November 30, as the project remains on schedule. Gasaway credits that to the dry weather.
