The Illinois chairman for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is betting things will go Romney’s way in the Illinois primary one week from today. State Treasurer Dan Rutherford heads Romney’s Illinois campaign, and is confident Romney will receive a lot of support. The campaign has already begun airing TV commercials across the state.

With Illinois’s primary the only one on March 20, some candidates will likely stay in Illinois for election results including Romney. Rutherford says there will be some campaigning and fundraising the day before and day of the primary. Rutherford says Romney’s closest competitor, Rick Santorum, is already ineligible to pick up 12 of the 54 delegates because he failed to file a full slate of delegates and alternates.
