Remember Robert Blagojevich, the brother and onetime co-defendant of the ex-governor? He’s peddling a book that is not kind to the U.S. attorney. Robert Blagojevich was indicted on corruption charges in 2009 along with Gov. Rod Blagojevich, for whom he worked as a fund-raiser, but after a hung jury in the first trial, prosecutors dropped the charges against Robert.

“I don’t blame my brother for what happened to me,” he said in a speech today (Monday) in support of his book at the City Club of Chicago. “I blame (former U.S. attorney) Patrick Fitzgerald. He overreached. He know who I was, the FBI knew who I was. They knew I was an honorable, honest guy and they chose to harness me into, to me, an overreaching, unjust prosecution,” he said. Robert Blagojevich says the U.S. attorney put the squeeze on him to testify against his brother. He also says former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. really did try to bribe his way into the U.S. Senate – sending emissaries offering $1.5 million and $6 million – and was never prosecuted for that. Robert Blagojevich is a business executive who lives in Tennessee. His book is Fundraiser A: My Fight for Freedom and Justice.
Rod Blagojevich was convicted in a second trial and is serving a 14-year sentence in federal prison. The sentence is under appeal. Robert Blagojevich says the conviction is unfair. He says his brother never had any criminal intent.
