After a funding freeze from the Illinois governor’s office was announced, a lot of work planned at Alton’s Riverview Park was put on hold. But there’s still plenty of work that will be done, and the city’s Public Works Director says that work should be starting in the next week or so.
Some site work and development is being done right now, including plans for the overlook area, and ADA compliant walkways and parking spaces. Bob Barnhart tells The Big Z even though the gazebo renovation has been put on hold, the end product will still be something to be proud of.

The work being done is being funded in part from a federal Scenic Byways grant. The money that was lost came to about $148,000 from the state’s OSLAD Grant.
