Even with another wash-out this weekend, river levels locally are not expected to reach the heights they did a couple of short weeks ago. While forecasters still keep an eye on rain to the north, the local deluge is not expected to raise levels significantly on the Mississippi River at Alton or Grafton.
Alton Public Relations Director Matt Asselmeier:
According to the latest estimates from the National Weather Service, the river will climb to 28.2 feet on Tuesday, and will start to fall on Wednesday. Flood stage at Alton is 21 feet. In Grafton, the flood stage is 18 feet and the crest should take place today at 28.1 feet before beginning its fall tomorrow afternoon.
