Republican John Barberis, Jr. was elected Judge of the Circuit Court for the Third Judicial Circuit, filling the vacancy left by the resignation of Ann Callis. Dennis Ruth and Richard Tognarelli were both retained in the office of Judge of the Circuit Court in the Third Judicial Circuit.
For the Illinois Supreme Court, the vote to retain Justice Lloyd Karmeier is still too close to call. He needs at least 60-percent YES votes to remain on the bench, and the most recent percentage is at 60.4-percent but all the votes are not in yet. Voters in 37 southern Illinois counties weighed in on the question of retention.
An advisory question in Alton asked voters whether a fountain at Third and Belle Streets should be named the “Miles Davis Memorial Fountain”. The question was answered with a resounding “Yes!”
