The Wood River City Council may consider a citywide leaf-burning ban. One resident explained why she would like the city to consider outlawing the practice within city limits. Neighboring communities like Bethalto, Hartford and Roxana have banned leaf-burning all together.
The woman, identified as Jan, lives in the Picker Avenue neighborhood, says burning affects her dramatically.

There are still many communities that allow limited leaf burning. East Alton allows burning during daylight hours October 1- March 31 between 8:00am and 5:00pm, while Wood River, Alton and Godfrey allows burning on Wednesdays and Saturdays during certain times of the year. Burning is allowed anytime in agriculturally zoned property, even if the property sits within the city limits of a municipality that has a burning ban, per statewide rules.
