Many minority voters aren’t likely to vote for Republicans –- something the party is aware of.  Illinois House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) acknowledges that the Republican Party doesn’t do well with minorities. “I think the tone and the rhetoric from a lot of people around the country on the Republican Party is inappropriate when it comes to issues like immigration,” Cross said.

But Cross stresses that’s on a national level. He admits attracting Latino voters is a challenge but says his party has acted with minorities in mind. “If you look at some of the bills that passed in the Illinois General Assembly in the past year, we had our own version of the Dream Act,” Cross said. “You saw Republicans including myself that supported that.” Still Cross says the Republican Party can do better in reaching out to minorities, especially at the national level.
