There is a program available in Illinois meant to help anyone having trouble paying their mortgages. You can apply for temporary financial assistance under the Illinois Hardest Hit Program if you do it by September 30. Eligible homeowners can receive either a one-time payment for all owed mortgage payments and penalties or monthly mortgage payment assistance to pay their entire mortgage for up to 18 months.
State Rep. Dan Beiser (D- Alton) says if you are having problems making your monthly payment, apply quickly before federal funding for this program is exhausted.
The program is federally funded and offers free services to homeowners struggling with unemployment or significant underemployment by allowing them to stay in their home while they work to get back on their feet financially. Beiser says the program has helped thousands of homeowners across the state. You can call his office at 618-465-5900, or follow the link: www.illinoishardesthit.org
