2012 was a good year for the Madison County Sheriff's Office according to a report released by the department on Wednesday. The 2012 annual report lists a number of noteworthy facts and highlights from last year. Among those, that 2012 was the first year since 1997, and was just the 2nd time in the last 40 years, that the sheriff's office did not investigate a homicide within its jurisdiction.

The overall crime rate in unincorporated Madison County is also down it its lowest level in for the past 13 years according to the report. There were 1,371 felony incidents in unincorporated Madison County last year, down from 1,603 in 2011.
