Lions belong in the jungle, not on the menu, according to a state representative who wants to ban the slaughter of lions. “Our economy is not that bad to go to eating lion meat,” State Rep. Luis Arroyo (D-Chicago) said. Arroyo is sponsoring a bill that would make possessing, selling, buying and breeding lions with the intent to slaughter a crime.

Arroyo said he wants to go to Washington and to try to get lions on the endangered species list. “I think it is going to be hard for me to pass that bill out of the House here, without it being on the endangered species list,” Arroyo said. Asiatic lions are currently on the endangered species list, and African lions could soon be added.
