East Alton- Wood River High School's Memorial Stadium was home to the annual Relay for Life of the Riverbend yesterday. An estimated 1,000 people attended the event intended to raise money for cancer research. The goal for this years event was $83,000, and the 42 different teams surpassed that goal raising $86,405.49. In addition to walking, many teams raised money by selling food or hosting games at their tents.
Dave Watts, the event coordinator for Relay for Life told the Big Z where all that money will end up.

The event tried something new this year, holding an all day festival. From 11 am to 11pm there were vendors and entertainment, including a Johnny Cash tribute band and a tug-of-war contest between the police and fire departments.
