Phillips 66 has made an investment of a quarter-million dollars in a number of Riverbend communities. The refinery is purchasing a number of tornado sirens to be placed around Hartford, Wood River, Roxana and South Roxana. The official announcement was made Tuesday.
Phillips 66 spokesman Melissa Erker says the idea to do this was brought to them by city officials in Hartford about a year ago, when they asked for assistance to replace their sirens.

The $250,000 will replace seven existing sirens, and add three new ones, creating an overlap in the coverage area, according to Erker. She says work on putting the sirens up will begin as soon as the weather allows, with a goal of being ready for spring.
