The Southwestern Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross based in Alton is helping in the response to this week’s apartment fire in Godfrey.  Ten people are looking for a new home following a Tuesday afternoon blaze in the 100 block of Woodbury Manor Apartments on Humbert Road.  Fire officials believe discarded smoking materials caused the fire.

Executive Director of the Red Cross in Alton, Robin Summers, says they are always at the ready when disaster strikes.  She says in the case of most fires that produce major damage you lose food and clothing.
