The challenger for the Madison County Recorder's Office says the incumbent sold the e-transfer information on file in Edwardsville to out-of-state mass marketing companies. Amy Meyer says she discovered the list containing thousands of names when an elderly man with no apparent link to marketers wound up the victim of a scam.
She says she found a company called Illinois Land Sales Bulletin had purchased the information.
She disagrees with the ethics of the decision, and also questions the legality of selling the information. Matt Rice says the Illinois Land Sales Bulletin is not a marketing agency, but rather a real estate sales bulletin. He says this information provided is a matter of public record.
Rice won the Recorder's seat in the fall of 2010 after beating incumbent Kyle Anderson. Meyer is running for office for the first time.
