Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has endorsed longtime Illinois Republican Congressman John Shimkus. The Collinsville native is facing a challenge in the GOP Primary from State Senator Kyle McCarter of Lebanon. Rauner traveled with Shimkus throughout his eastern Illinois district on Monday.
The two made six stops on Monday including Danville, Effingham and Troy. Rauner praised Shimkus for being a hard working, pro-business Congressman. Shimkus is seeking his 11th term in Congress, although earlier in his career he pledged he would only serve 6, two-year terms. He changed his mind after claiming voters wanted him to stick around. The 15th Congressional District covers much of south central and southeastern Illinois, but stretches to the west to include eastern Madison County and a portion of Collinsville. The primary is March 15.
