Chances are, you hadn't heard of Bruce Rauner a year ago. Now he’s governor of Illinois, through a largely self-funded campaign, and he’s seeding a $20 million fund to help his brand of candidate. “The voters need to be informed about the issues and what’s going on,” Rauner says. “The voters need to understand my personal view of the issues and the agenda. The folks who might have a different view are entitled to their views as well, but we’ve got to get our message to the voters.”

When informed that legislative leaders from both parties indicated after a meeting with Rauner that the new governor has much to learn, Rauner said he was the one who first mentioned that, “and they agreed with me – enthusiastically.” He says the workings of the legislative processes, customs, and protocol are new to him, but he has plenty to teach lawmakers about business, he says.
