Evelyn SanguinettiRepublican governor candidate Bruce Rauner has picked his running mate: Evelyn Sanguinetti.  Sanguinetti is a member of the Wheaton City Council, and once worked in the Illinois Attorney General’s office under Jim Ryan, but admits she’s not well known around the state. “I’m sure a four-foot-11 Latina with an Italian last name and three small children is certainly not what the career politicians out in Springfield expected,” Sanguinetti said.

Sanguinetti is the third female lieutenant governor candidate in the Republican field. State Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) selected state Rep. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) as his running mate, while Maria Rodriguez, the former mayor of Long Grove, is running alongside state Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington). Tracy welcomed the “gender balance,” but doesn’t believe the outsider image of the Rauner-Sanguinetti ticket will appeal to voters.  “I think people just want somebody who can turn this state around,” Tracy said.
All four Republican candidates for governor have now named a running mate. Gov. Pat Quinn, currently running unopposed in the Democratic primary, has yet to announce his choice.
