The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has given preliminary approval to a resolution that would raise the cost of birth and death certificates.  It currently costs $15 for a birth certificate and $20 for a death certificate.  Under this proposal the rates would increase to $20 and $23 respectively, mirroring the fees Madison County charges.

First Ward Alderman Jim Ryan introduced the resolution, saying it is in an effort to get in line with what the county charges.  In other action, the committee approved the use of a city-owned building for use as a set of sorts to film a movie scent.  The action is to be filmed inside the building at 324 Ridge Street, which is at the corner of Adams Street.  The full council meets tomorrow night to discuss these and other items.
