Track improvements at several railroad crossings in Godfrey continue this week, and while work appears to be ahead of schedule, it can't go fast enough for those saddled with finding alternate routes from one side of town to the other. The closures began last week, and the latest information has the last of the work wrapping up around May 5.
The rail work is part of the high speed rail corridor upgrades between St. Louis and Chicago. Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick is ready for the work to be done.
The update for this (Tuesday) morning has Alby scheduled to close again today for more work, once Tolle Lane opens. The Pearl Street crossing is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, while Bethany remains closed. The crossing at Humbert Road is now open.
