Gov. Pat Quinn is on a trade mission to Mexico. The three-day trip will include meetings with potential trade partners and Mexico’s secretary of agriculture. Quinn will also be making a stop at an Illinois tourism event and will sign a “Sister Lakes” pact. Quinn says the state wants to make sure that Illinois-based manufactures of water pumps and manufacturers of other water and wastewater treatment supplies have a chance for trade.

“All of us want to work together with Mexico in developing clean water technologies dealing with drinking water, wastewater treatment,” Quinn said. “These are things that can’t be ignored and they create a lot of jobs here in Illinois, so this is a very good opportunity for us to expand our economy.” Quinn will also meet with two state governors and mayors of Mexico City and Patzcuaro. Quinn will be Illinois first governor to visit Mexico in 13 years.
