A public opinion survey published in the Chicago Tribune shows voters statewide supported more casinos 50-42 in February, but now they oppose expansion 47-43.  The governor vetoed this year’s casino expansion bill, saying it included insufficient oversight. Specifically, he wants to ban casino operators from making political contributions.

He says he’s OK with no new casinos unless he gets the regulatory environment he wants.  The new casinos would have been in Chicago, Danville, Rockford, the Waukegan area and in the South Suburbs of Chicago.  The bill also would have allowed slot machines at race tracks.
